In case anyone wants to rev up an inexpensive Regal here's another one I worked on. It's a rarer model only seen one other it says "San Francisco" on the tortoise shell head stock and was a regular soundwell design. I drilled out holes to make a semi-open body put in two soundposts in front near the sound holes did "x" brace and even put in a baffle or reflector up at the top bout ala Sheerhorn. Also had to put some extra wood on the cone ledge because they glued the soundwell in a bit too far back. I had no idea what I was doing just following my intuition. I put in a Beard Legend and a #14 Beard Spider wow major difference. Now what the difference is due to the opening of the body and reflector I can't say but I'm pretty sure the cone/spider is 70% responsible but the bass is so much bigger I have a feeling the opening up definitely helped. Total cost $500 which you might say is a waste but from what I learned doing it I feel like I'm definitely further ahead in my playing. I'm seeing how there's a mix of qualities like bass response and treble response and evenness of strings across as well and subtle resonances and sustain. So I'm very satisfied with this new Regal loud enough for me and I can get nice tones out of it it plays with alot of different tones depending on picking location more that the Nati did or the Gold Tone PB I think this sound better to me than the GT PB which is 2x the price even came with a case from GC for $240 plus the parts cash strapped reso-buddies take heart!
